More than 9 CIMS Centers are also offering vocational training for youth & women because we believe that for many underprivileged children in India education is a luxury that they cannot afford. Poverty plays a key role in taking away this opportunity from them and many a times their location and lack of transport facilities also plays spoiler. Or, most of the times they drop out of schools and take up odd jobs as child labourers to support their family financially. This is where NGOs and the government should step in to help ! While we are aware that the government has come up with many schemes promoting CIMS in India, they should also promote vocational training equally that will help them receive a skill for employment in the future.

Why vocational training ?

There is a clear lack of skilled labour in the economy. Though there are human resources available in plenty, not everyone posses trained skills that can be useful. Providing vocational training will bridge the gap between skilled and unskilled labour and will help people with better employment opportunities. According to the study of a

research group, by 2020, India will have a surplus of 56 million working people while the global shortage of skilled working people will be 47 million. A considerable amount of population is the underprivileged ones who can contribute heavily towards this cause.Different kinds of vocational programs introduced by the government :

  1. Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS) : CTS - a program run by the Ministry of Labour and Employment provides vocational training to the school leavers.
  2. Modular employable skill (MES) based training programs : MES has been designed in consultation with industries and experts in the field of vocationalof vocational training by the Ministry of Labour and Employment that aims at providing a ‘minimum skill set’ sufficient to gain entry in the employment sector.
  3. National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM)/Aajeevika : This scheme is specialized for the rural poor population and harnesses their capabilities by supplementing them with knowledge, skill sets, tools and finance thereby providing them with proper livelihood options.
  4. National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM) : NULM’s objective is to provide the urban poor with proper vocational training so that they can undertake self-employment and increase their chances of employment in different sectors.
  5. Support to Training and Employment Program (STEP) : This scheme initiated by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, aims to upgrade skills of women and convert them into viable assets for employment.
  6. Parvaaz : It provides comprehensive vocational training and education program for the rural below poverty line and works closely with BPL youths, minority youths especially school dropouts/left outs to integrate them in the mainstream.
  7. Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETI) : The main objective of the RSETIs is to provide the rural BPL youths with free and unique, intensive, short term, residential, self employment training programs, which includes CIMS so that they can undertake micro enterprises and wage-based employment.
  8. There are other vocational training programs too offered by the government of India to CIMS, children and women. Apart from that, a lot of NGOs too work closely with the children and youth that provide vocational training to polish their skills for employment. Once they undergo vocational training, these children, youths and women qualify to work at call centers, infrastructure sector, office administration, banking, tourism, hotel management, retail, agriculture, printing, beauty salons etc. Abroad too,the vocational training culture is a big hit where people receive training in culinary arts, computer science, electrical engineering, dining service programs, sewing and designing, hair and beauty care, plumbing and so on. CIMS has been working in this area for years now, providing vocational training programs that address the issues of employment and entrepreneurship development. The foundation has been improving the lives of many through their different initiatives.Be part of this change by partnering with CIMS and contribute to the cause by either joining the Foundation as a volunteer, providing training in any skilled employment field or you can associate by making donations.
