It is very important to consider below points before doing ANM/GNM course :-

1) ANM/GNM are only certificate/diploma level courses. After doing these courses, you have to do Post Basic nursing/BSc nursing/BA/BSc etc. to become a nursing related graduate or general graduate.

2) After doing ANM/GNM, you cannot sell/distribute medicine to anyone, it is also important to understand that for this you have to do Pharmacy (DPharma / BPharma) course or you have to do doctor degree course to write prescription.

3) After doing ANM/GNM you cannot open your own clinic/hospital. For opening a clinic you must have a doctor's degree (BAMS/BHMS/BUMS/MBBS/BNYS/BSMS/BUMS).

4) After doing ANM/GNM you are allowed only to do primary nursing care and you can work as  compounder/wardboy/midwifery/nursing assistant at any hospital.

Now the question is - What is the better option other than ANM/GNM?

1) If you are enrolled to pharmacy course (DPharma/BPharma), you can do primary nursing care because in pharmacy course the training of First Aid/Primary Nursing Care is given too. Apart from this, after doing pharmacy course, you can open your own medicine shop along with first aid nursing care and distribute / sell medicine according to the prescription of a registered doctor, whereas after ANM / GNM you cannot do this stuff of dispensing medicine.

For detailed information related to pharmacy course, read this post - Pharmacy Course: Details of BPharma and DPharma

2) If you do not want to start your own medicine related business/hospital etc. and want to do only first aid care/nursing/dressing/midwifery care under the supervision of government or private doctor/hospital then ANM/GNM is a good choice for you.Either If you do not want to do graduation or other courses related to nursing care after ANM/GNM, you can also choose BSc Nursing or BSc Community Health course directly, because BSc Nursing or BSc Community Health degree holders have more options and more preferences than ANM / GNM diploma courses. After BSc Nursing/BSc Community Health you are also considered as a graduate degree holder.

3) Apart from this, well known doctor degree course after NEET like - BAMS / BHMS / BSMS / BUMS / MBBS / BDS are best options. Most recently few doctor degree courses like BNYS, BOOT can be done from any UGC recognized university even without NEET and after doing these courses, you are automatically considered eligible for primary nursing care and you can practice as a registered doctor too.
